The event, organized by the two Danish partners  and hosted by the Municipality of Aarhus, took place on the yearly vaccination day at the local community center where elders can meet up to get a vaccination against flu, free of charge. In the event, partners from Dan Age, from a hearing aid company and from the Nursing University College of Aarhus participated, along with representatives from other municipalities, medical practitioners and elders.

More than 25 partners and elders attended the TECHSenior event, introducing the participants to the TECHSenior project and the material developed. Several partners and elders showed a particular interest in the online course material on the TECHSenior website and they gave feedback on the training material as well.

During the project were implemented training programs for seniors in 4 European countries (Greece, Spain, United Kingdom, Denmark), by project partners.

All partners developed the learning material which was uploaded to the e-learning platform on the website of the Project.

An important part of the two-day meeting, will also be the personal experiences of trainees in Greece, who will talk about their experience, in what way training program helped them in their daily life and how easy is for them to use new technology.

The meeting will close with the presentation of the results of the training programs to partner’s countries and the actions which will be taken for the sustainability of the project.

The elders participating in the course were very enthusiastic, also sharing knowledge and advice with the TechSenior Project. Particularly knowledge and advice of good Danish informative websites was useful, additional to the TechSenior website when Danish elders experience trouble understanding different official digital solutions.

The most popular websites are: www.eKurser.nu and https://demo.borger.dk  and https://digst.dk – all explaining the use of certain Danish official digital solutions.

All elders liked the TechSenior courses for being easy to use with clear step by step guidance.

The lessons of the training program for learning new technologies, for people over 50 years, that have begun as part of the implementation of the TECHSenior European Project, continue in Greece for the fifth week!

Participants have already begun to learn some basic steps of Internet exploring. The modules that have been taught so far, are how to search for information, photos, news, etc. through Google’s search engine, create an e-mail account and send emails, photos, attachments, etc., and create accounts on social networks (Facebook).

By using computers and tablets, learners have the opportunity to experience in practice what they are taught and to become even more familiar with computers and new technologies.

Lessons are taking place once a week and last for 2 hours, while there are 2 weeks left to complete the program.

The courses are taking place in Patras, at the offices of p-consulting (Iroon Polytechniou 92) and at KOISPE “Faros” (Mikinon Str. 1) (partners of the project in Greece), while the training material is posted on the website of the Project and will be available both during the course completion and after the end of the training program.

On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, has started the training program for learning new technologies in people over 50, in the framework of the implementation of the European Project TECHSenior in Greece. The training process involves a number of 45 people, divided into 7 small classes. The courses take place in Patras, at the offices of p-consulting (Iroon Polytechniou 92) and KOISPE “Faros” (Mycenwn 1) (partners of the project in Greece).

The training schedule is weekly, lasting 2 hours, and will last for a total of 7 weeks.

The main topics to be covered are:

• Search for information on Google’s search engine,
• Create an e-mail account,
• Create a social network account (Facebook),
• Learning – Understanding how to use Skype,
• Internet Banking,
• Uploading photos online.

The training material is posted on the Project’s website and will be available both during the course completion and after the end of the training program.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS), which is the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics and the recognized national statistical institute of the UK, released some very interesting data, concerning the worldwide web’s use by the elders in Great Britain.

The figures show that women aged over 75 are far less likely to use the internet (37.6 percent) than their male counterparts (51.3 percent). Moreover, the data revealed that men aged 65 to 75 were more likely than women to be online, while among younger age groups the proportions were equal.

According to experts, this gender gap exists because men were more likely to have work experience of digital than women. During the past decades, higher-skilled job positions that required digital knowledge were held by more men than women.

However, the benefits of the internet use are not well-known to both genders and thus certain actions must be taken. The government, IT-related companies and services should implement smooth learning methods and motivate the elders to get a confident online approach.

In such way, older people (men and women) will be able to meet their needs online by having an efficient access to information and essential services such as banking, health information, booking appointments or paying bills.

The TECHSenior project aims to this direction, having as a primary objective to make elders capable of living independently in the digitalized world.

A new action has begun in a neighbourhood of the City of Athens, in Greece, which aims to lay the foundations for the digital upgrading of citizens, especially elderly people. The home of national resistance fighter Lela Karagianni has been transformed from the beginning of the year into a hub of familiarizing citizens with the Internet and the new technologies. This initiative is the product of a collaboration between the Municipality of Athens and Microsoft Company.

Lessons.

More than 300 students have stated and started lessons for the dense scheduled seminars held in the historical house. Very interesting is that the stakeholders are not only citizens of Athens, but they also people who come from other municipalities near Athens too, which do not offer that kind of services to their citizens.

The development of digital skills is particularly important, according to the planning of the municipality, which can lead to the expansion and understanding of Athens as a “smart digitalized city“. By offering these seminars, many people, especially those over 50, can become familiar with computers and the internet.

A very important observation since the seminars have started is that the age group that is most interested in the seminars, is precisely that of people over 50-55. Older people, trying to keep up with the demands and facilities of the New – Digital Age, try to understand why their children and grandchildren are on a screen and shop online, without putting up long queues trying to make a deposit.

They are also trying to become a member of this world!

A similar action with the one of Municipality of Athens in Greece, is the TechSenior’s action. The project is aimed at learning new technologies for people over 55, by participating in workshops and live classes, and by using an e-learning platform. The training program in Greece is going to be implemented in Patras by the IT consulting company, p-consulting  (www.p-consulting.gr ) and the Social Enterprise “Faros” (koispe-faros.gr/ ).

In the framework of information on the European Project TechSenior (Erasmus + -KA2), a Multiplier Event will take place on April 19th in Patras, Greece.

TechSenior is a two-year European project, which started in October 2016 and is implemented under the Erasmus + Program (KA2).

The aim of the project is to train older people to be able to use new technologies, in order to improve their standard of living and maintaining their correspondent autonomy.

The purpose of the Multiplier Event is to inform the public concerned about the project, but also to inform about the two training programs that will be created for the implementation of the project. The first one program will concern the training of caregivers and trainees, and the second one creation of an e-learning platform for the elderly.

The Multiplier Event will be framed by speeches on the use of electronic devices by older people. More specifically:

• Mr. Chrysanthopoulos will talk about the problems of the elderly in the modern era, with an emphasis on the social life of the elderly and their daily routine.
• Mr. Avouris will talk about how technology can help the elderly (applications – internet – good practices).
• Mr. Panagiotis G. Anastassopoulos and Mrs. Charitini-Maria Skoulidi from p-consulting will develop the topic “Internet, this stranger. Presentation of the Techsenior Project”.
• Last but not least, Mr. Koulis Stefanos from KOISPE “Faros”, will finish the Multiplier Event with a speech on “Daily life of older people linked to their mental health”.

The Multiplier Event will be co-organized by p-consulting and KOISPE “FAROS”, and will take place in the Chamber of Achaia.
